Thomas Kent Commemoration Day 2016

Marching Army Band

The students of Third Class were invited to the Thomas Kent State Commemoration in Collins Barracks on 9th May.  Despite the harsh weather conditions, the pupils got into the spirit of things enjoying:

  • A Military Display
  • Historical Talks
  • A Visit to the Old Cork Prison- including the cell of Thomas Kent
  • Army Band Recital on the Main Barracks Square

We would like to thank Óglaigh na hÉireann for welcoming us to this historical celebration.

Quotes from Ms. Goggin’s 3rd Class:

“Even though it was raining, we had great fun; we got to see the parade and vehicles.”- Na Mic Tíre

“We got to go inside the vehicles, see the army. It was one of the best tours ever.”- Na Fianna

“We saw Thomas Kent’s cell, original grave and a video of his State Funeral in September 2015. It was an amazing experience. “- Na Muca

“It was an amazing opportunity for 3rd class. It was the first time that Cork Prison was open to the public as a museum. It was an honour to be able to go.”- Na Madraí Rua
