Accelerated Reader is an online learning tool that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. This resource is currently being used at learning stations from 2nd to 6th class.
Your child picks a book at their own level and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) Accelerated Reader gives children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice..
Children using Accelerated Reader choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them. They are aware of their own reading range (ZPD) and can select books to match. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. Accelerated Reader is for all reading abilities. Children can also read digital books at their level by logging into their MyOn account (www.myon.co.uk )
We are currently investing in more high interest books for our Accelerated Reader libraries but we would appreciate your support. Do you have any modern children’s books or collections you can donate to the school? We are particularly interested in books suitable for the children in 2nd and 3rd Class but any donations will be gratefully accepted.
